Oil on canvas. Creation of a larger painting
My client had just moved into a new home and after purchasing some of my paintings decided that one of these was too small for their wall. They had fallen in love with the original so enquired if I could scale up it up onto a 1.5-metre wide canvas. I made a couple of new additions and slight variations to the colours and textures, making this new version bespoke. Framed in a contemporary white wooden floating frame and sprayed with a turquoise sea green inner backing, it's starting the process in injecting personality, - making the new house their home.
Client Brief Oil Paintings: Quadriptych Scapes
Together we worked to create a clear vision for the type of paintings my client required after purchasing one of my paintings at a previous exhibition. With a love of sharp colour contrasts and dramatic land and seascapes, the collection captured atmospheric seasonal changes representing a time of day conveyed through cloud formations. This collection will be displayed together as a quadriptych in their formal dining room at home.
Each commission is a unique project. It's a personal statement that reflects the character of the chosen content to suit
the home and its owners. It's a working collaboration between me, the artist and you the client. The process of commissioning
a painting is both a simple and enjoyable one. It's a dialogue about carefully selected subject matters, colour palettes, content material, styles and sizes.
I work to agreed timings and budgets, plus I invite you to see work in progress of any drawings or sketches along with updates
of work in progress, following the journey as the painting takes shape. One completed you may require a frame so together we can select a style to not only suit the painting but its placement in your home.
Oil on canvas. Holkham, Norfolk coastline.
The client had just returned from a holiday along the Norfolk coast at Holkham. They had viewed a number of paintings I had on show in an exhibition that depicted scenes of the area, - but unfortunately, they were either the wrong format, colour or style which wouldn’t sit comfortably in their chosen location of a bedroom in their home. Over a number of weeks, we worked together to gather the story with their travel pictures that reflected their memories into one image. The final oil painting depicted a moment in time when a storm was brewing on the horizon and a brisk walk was required back to the hotel before they got both got soaked and the heavens opened!
Client Brief Pen & Ink: New Pup
The client had always had a love of her Collies. She wanted a drawing that captured the vitality and youth of her new beloved member of the family. A small black and white line drawing with added areas of colour tints fitted the brief. Mounted into a modern white wooden frame.- One happy dog owner!
Client Brief Oil Painting: The Storm
The client wanted to commission a special painting of a moment in time when she and her husband moved to the Essex coast. That very same week there was a dramatic storm and the seafront was awash with big, heavy waves crushing into the promenade wall. It was a surprise present for a 'very special' birthday, a big family celebration. Her husband was overjoyed with his painting. It now hangs in pride of place, in the lounge, above their fireplace.
Client Brief Oil Painting: A Special Moment
The client wanted a surprise present for his wife and family to celebrate a family event. Painted in a classical style to suit the clients' decor, the painting took 6 weeks to complete. The client visited my studio on a number of occasions to view work in progress, from pencil sketch to the final piece. He was delighted with the final piece, excited about the final unveiling during a family dinner later that week.
