I'm Laura

A representational artist with

a contemporary style

Laura Dunmow
#fine art

My inspiration is immersed in the classical style of oil painting that centres around the aesthetic values of colour and unity of space, where the use of light and interpreted brush strokes create a distinctive, contemporary style. I choose oils as my favoured medium. My portrait and figurative works are heavily influenced by Sargent’s work and his remarkable technical ability to draw with his brush, while the landscapes are inspired by Turner’s wonderful interplay between light and colour.

I continue to attend various courses* that strengthen my focus on observation, drawing and application technics, which all help to enhance my visual representations. I take great enjoyment in evolving these across various styles, continuing to strive for perfection,- always with the desire to experiment and produce work that creates diverse opportunities for the next, new painting. '

I'm a representational artist, living and working in Hertfordshire. My figurative paintings breathing life on the depth of diverse human relationships, depicting power, action or grace while my landscapes are a representation of personal journeys, capturing the atmosphere and drama in nature and its seasons.

I work from my studio based in Welwyn, Hertfordshire, where I continue to create an eclectic body of work, - with collections that explore various themes, always stretching and challenging my creative focus. My work sells through galleries, exhibitions and UK art fairs and I regularly exhibit throughout Hertfordshire and the 3 counties.

My Studio

This is my studio- a place where I love to paint.

I’m passionate about painting and eager to share my knowledge achieved by building on the traditional skills of drawing and painting from life. Whilst encouraging and nurturing your abilities, you can steadily gain the confidence to challenge any project with your chosen painting medium or selected subject matter.

Sharing Skills

One to One

Whether your a total beginner, returning to painting or an improver that feels you have reached a plateau, private one to one tuition could be the solution to kick start your artistic journey.

This type of tuition provides you with a flexible and bespoke timetable of studies that can cover the following disciplines:

  • Observational studies in black and white that capture scale and proportion.
  • Studying tone and how to represent realistic shapes and forms.
  • Introduction to oil paints, their mediums and the skills of how to handle them.
  • An understanding of colour, mixing, harmony, and it’s value for real-life painting principles.

I charge by the hour, so together we build timetables that suit your requirements, e.g. time of day/s and content of each study lesson.
